Dr Susan Barne

Dr Susan Barne is the Chief of Staff at IQE Plc, a compound semiconductor Company headquartered in Cardiff, Wales. One of just three female students studying BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Warwick University she graduated in 1990 with a First-Class Honours degree. Susan joined IQE plc in 1990 when it was a start-up company and spent the first few years of her career in R&D. She was awarded a PhD in Semiconductor Physics from the University of Cardiff in 1995. In her 30-year career with IQE she has been influential in the growth and success of the Company, building teams and processes across multiple disciplines including technical sales, quality, customer service, logistics and export control. Most recently, following a number of managerial posts, Susan was promoted to Group Commercial Director in 2017, Group Planning Director in 2021 and her current role as Chief of Staff to IQE’s CEO in January 2023.
