COO & CFO, Burberry & Audit Chair Roche
Julie Brown is the COO & CFO of Burberry and the Audit Chair of Roche. After gaining First Class Honours from Warwick University, she joined KPMG where she qualified and became a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountancy and the Institute of Tax.
Julie then spent 25 years with AstraZeneca, undertaking 11 roles in 4 countries and 3 continents, covering all aspects of Finance in the value chain, together with fulfilling Commercial and Strategic roles, including Head of Corporate Strategy, Marketing Company President, Regional Vice President and Interim Group CFO. Julie also has extensive M&A experience, being part of AZ merger team, together with leading multi-billion dollar change and restructuring programmes.
Julie joined Smith & Nephew plc in 2013 as Group CFO, during which time over 20 acquisitions were completed and the market value of the company doubled.
Julie then joined Burberry as Chief Operating and Financial Officer in 2017 where she is responsible for the Finance Function, Sustainability, Investor Relations, IT, Risk, Audit, Business Continuity, Procurement and Burberry Business Services.
Julie has a number of non-executive roles, she is a member of the Board of Roche and chairs the Audit Committee. She is also a member of the Prime Minister’s Business Council, a member of the Mayor of London’s Business Advisory Board and member of the 100 Group Main Committee.
Julie is passionate about supporting the next generation of female leaders and Sustainability. She is co-Chair of The Prince’s Accounting for Sustainability Project’s CFO Leadership Network, Patron of Oxford University Women in Business and Ambassador for the Prince’s Trust Women Supporting Women initiative.
