Chief Operating and Financial Officer, Burberry plc
Julie is COO & CFO of Burberry and the Audit Chair of Roche. After gaining a First from Warwick University, she joined KPMG and worked in mainline audit and private business. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG and became a Fellow of the Institute of Taxation.
Julie then spent 25 years of her career with AstraZeneca. She undertook 11 different roles in 4 countries and 3 continents, covering all aspects of Finance in the healthcare value chain ranging from R&D, to Commercial, Product Strategy, Licensing, Operations and Supply Chain. She led major change programmes including $1bn efficiency and productivity programmes in Operations, Commercial and R&D following large-scale M&A. She was also part of the team that delivered the $50bn merger between Astra and Zeneca. Julie also fulfilled a number of Commercial and Strategic roles including Head of Corporate Strategy, Marketing Company President, Regional VP Latin America and Interim Group CFO.
Julie then joined Smith & Nephew as Group CFO at the beginning of 2013. During that time, she led a business-wide Group Optimisation programme and led the Finance Transformation. Julie also supported > 20 acquisitions during this time; refinanced the company; and contributed as part of the team to doubling the share price.
Julie joined Burberry in January 2017 as Chief Operating and Financial Officer. She is responsible for the Transformation Office designed to support delivery of the Strategy, the Finance Function, Investor Relations, IT, Procurement and Burberry Business Services. She leads the Operational Excellence strategy and established Burberry Business Services, covering five major functions.
Julie is a member of the Board of Roche and also chairs the Roche Audit Committee.
She is also Patron of Oxford University Women in Business and the Princes Trust Sustainability and Women Supporting Women groups.
